Job Description For: ELA/History Humanities Teacher (Therapeutic Programs)

Directly Reports To: Program Coordinator and Program Director

Qualifications:    Bachelor's Degree required, Masters preferred. Massachusetts DESE licensure in Moderate Special Needs, 5th – 12th,  and/or licensure in a core content area of English, and/or History as set forth in 603 CMR 7.04. Candidates with dual licensure in Moderate Special Needs and core content area are highly desired.

The teacher designs and implements curriculum that engages students and align with current Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Teachers employ a variety of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), embedded in the learning process while individualizing instruction according to each student’s IEP.  Teachers must demonstrate knowledge and skill to promote high quality and rigorous academics to support their student growth and success.

• Knowledge of evidence based inclusive practices that meet the needs of social/emotional learners.
• Awareness of culturally proficient beliefs, and values that enhance the relationships between children, parents/guardians, families and school.

• Innovative instructional strategies that incorporate emerging technologies, competency based assessments, and project based learning.

The position includes the following responsibilities:

Service Delivery:

• Plan and implement evidenced based instructional activities that actively engage students in learning.
• Plan and implement instructional activities that align with the appropriate grade and content within the current Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.  
• Plan and effectively implement lessons using Universal Design for Learning Frameworks.
• Employ strategies and instructional techniques that differientiate instruction to align with student IEP accommodations.
• Plan and implement diagnostic, formative and summative assessments to closely monitor student learning.
• Utilize student assessment  data results to evaluate and  modify instructional practices in order to promote student growth.  
• Adhere to School Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) guidelines.
• Collaborate with team members to respond to student clincial and educational needs.
• Participate in developing IEPs, transition plans and other individualized plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary staff,parents/guardians, families, and IEP teams.
• Implement IEPs, transition plans and other individualized plans.
• Using School Wide Data collection tools and rubrics, maintain individual student academic and  behavioral data. Teachers will use data to adjust their educational practice, complete IEP progress reports, report on student current performance and report on quarter academic progress.
• Complete forms/documentation such as monthly lesson plans, unit plans, mid term reports, report cards, IEP progress notes, attendance records, incident reports and other student related documentation.
• Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, in-service and school wide events.
• Model professional and ethical standards when communicating and interacting with students, parents/guardians, families colleagues and administrators.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to support  the needs of students with social/emotional disabilities.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to support a school milieu that embraces a year round open enrollment.
• Demonstrate a knowledge of current research and literature as it applies to the field of teaching.
• Adhere to established federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Refine and develop professional skills through training, professional literature, and continuing education.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Exchange professional information with peers through formal and informal interactions.
• Comply with collaborative wide policies and procedures.

EVALUATION:  Evaluation to be performed annually in accordance with Assabet Valley Collaborative’s personnel handbook and pertinent regulations and statutes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical ability to execute job responsibilities that may include (depending upon assignment):

• Drive a 7D vehicle.
• Meet the physical requirements necessary to physically intervene in a crisis or emergency as trained and per AVC Physical Restraint protocol, policy and applicable regulations.
• Use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, tools, or controls.
• Ability to see, hear and speak.
• Ability to report to work on time and fulfill contract days and hours
