Credentials required: Minimum of two-year degree or specialized training; four year degree preferred.
Summer School Dates: July 10, 2017-August 17, 2017 (Mon-Thu)
Staff Reporting hours: ranges 5.5 to 6.5 hours per day between 8:15 and 2:45
Evolution Program Description: Evolution serves special education students who have completed 12th grade whose IEP Teams have identified a need for a post-graduate vocational/transitional program up to age 22. Services provided at Evolution include vocational assessment, job development, functional academics, community-based job experiences, social/emotional support, activities of daily living, and independent living skills development. Evolution promotes self-awareness and self-advocacy and students are actively engaged in designing their future path toward maximized independence.
Full Time Job Description: Paraprofessional/Support Staff (duties may vary during summer school programming)
Directly Reports To: Assigned supervisor (Program Director, Coordinator, Teacher)
Primary Position Function:
The Paraprofessional/Support Staff position at AVC supports the overall programming and services at AVC through monitoring, assisting, and supporting students throughout the day in a variety of tasks and domains - including supporting educational/school-based activities, community based activities, and the implementation of specialized services through the training and oversight of licensed professionals. Data collection is vital to the role of all paraprofessionals.
The position requires the following skills:

Sensitive to the beliefs, traditions, and values across cultures and how these impact the relationships between children, families and schooling.

Awareness of the potential implications of various student characteristics on learning and achievement.

Knowledge and Application of Computer Word Processing Skills

Ability to collect and record performance data on students under the direction of licensed professionals.
The position includes the following responsibilities:
-
Implement the school/program behavior system and individualized behavior plans.
-
Assist with instruction and activities for groups and individuals as assigned.
-
Assist with the day to day operation of the school environment by monitoring/supervising and assisting students throughout program space (ex: transition between classes, bathroom escorts, lunchtime, breakfast, arrival/dismissal )
-
Complete forms/documentation daily and as scheduled.
-
Assist with community-based activities including field trips, work study or work sites, gym and recreational activities.

Attends scheduled meetings for staff development and training
-
Contribute to organizational solutions outside of assigned job responsibilities
-
Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Accompanying students to worksites and providing supervision, data collection, coaching, support (in some cases completing work tasks), advocacy and monitoring while there
-
Collect and submit data regarding goals/outcomes as related to students IEPs, Transition Plans, and other plans as assigned.

Implement recommendations of professional staff as assigned
-
Participating in weekly staff meetings as scheduled by Supervisor
-
Participating in routine supervision meetings with Supervisors
- Assisting with instructional service delivery as indicated (i.e. during class or group time or on the job-site/in the community).

Adheres to established federal, state, and local laws and regulations
-
Maintains confidentiality of student information according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Follows the standard operating procedures and protocol of the AVC
-
In collaboration with the School Nurse, participate in trainings, demonstrate competencies and be willing to administer Epinephrine to students with known allergies as needed.

Assisting ambulatory young adults in maintaining gait steadiness

Assisting/lifting children to young adult students into and out of transportation vehicles (if applicable)

Use hands to finger, handle or fell objects, tools, or controls; see (including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus), hear and speak; key (i.e., computer, calculator, telephone);

Diaper changing/toileting of young adults on a floor mat or changing table – physical demands include lifting of legs, lifting/supporting of mid-section, and removing and replacing diapers under mid-section (varies by assignment)

Implementation of ranges of motion as directed by PT and/or OT (as indicated)

Assisting ambulatory young adults in maintaining gait steadiness (varies by assignment)

Transferring students to various positions, including to and from a floor mat, by assisting in lifting protocol as determined by PT recommendations (in some cases through two-person lifts, other cases with the use of a mechanical lift).

Employ the use of the Hoyer Lift to elevate up to 120 lbs. from floor to chest height

Assist in lifting 40-50 lbs. to waist height (weight may not be distributed evenly between lifting partners given staffing variations.)

Sit, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stand and walk; grasp with hands and fingers; and assist in lifting 40-50 lbs (weight may not be distributed evenly between lifting partners given staffing variations.)

Use hands to finger, handle or fell objects, tools, or controls; see (including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus), hear and speak; key (i.e., computer, calculator, telephone);

Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties including assisting in lifting student weighing up to 50 pounds into and out of wheelchairs and special equipment (weight may not be distributed evenly between lifting partners given staffing variations.
EVALUATION: Evaluation to be performed in accordance with AVC Personnel Handbook and applicable state regulations and statutes.
